If you think Vishal would have realised he has to change after a below-average Sathyam, he hasn't. If his earlier movie Sathyam was below average, then Thoranai, directed by Sabha Iyappan, is virtually non starter.

Do you really want the story of the movie ? The story is the just the same as 70% of "commercial" movies. You have seen it in Gilli, Thirupachi or as a matter of fact, even in Vishal's earlier movies. Its about a naive young man doing nothing in his village. And one fine day her mother, who is always crying about the loss of her first son who ran away from home. The reason : The boy loves a girl at the age of 10 (!) and tattoos her name on his chest. The parents find out and beat the poor boy. The boy runs away from home. You can laugh if you want but this is real.

So our hero marches to Chennai (how does he know his brother is in chennai ?). Fight sequence 1: 10 people seriously injured and several others have minor wounds. Enter Villains of the movie fighting for extra space in the city. Kishore and Prakashraj (oh no! not again) are the only dons of CHennai (heard this before eh?). Now comes Shriya Saran into the movie. Obviously not to help the story's cause but to show her skin in 5 songs. OK... fight sequence and romance done. Whats missing? Ah. Comedy.

We have Santhanam , Paravai Muniamma and co to take care of this. This is one of the crudest, worst comedy tracks you will ever see. Lewd dialogues and stale comedy engulf the first half. No one with a decent sense of humor will appreciate this. Then the rest of the movie is about the following combination. 10 minutes of comedy, a fight sequence, a duet song and some sentiment. OK thats all the movie is about. Are you wondering whether Vishal finds his elder brother ? Yes he does.

Vishal is the biggest drawback of the movie. Its not just enough to kick a few people. You need to act as well. Trying to act in a comedy role ? God save us please. He tries to imitate all the actors. Rajini, Ajith, Simbhu, Thanush ... you name the actor and he tries to imitate him. Puch dialogues...huh. Vishal please understand that you are not a super star yet. So please try to do some roles which suits your age. Vishal again tries to convert villians into good guys ( a la Sathyam ?) when he hear people yawning in the movie halls.

There is nothing to write about Shriya. She has shown skin in the songs of the movie. Thats all. There are a whole lot of other actors in the movie I couldnt even remember. Prakash Raj and Kishore, two very talented actors, have been wasted in the movie to say the least.

Techically....(what?) there is nothing the movie worth mentioning. Cinematography is average. A song sequence is Ladakh is good. Mani Sharma's music will be appreciated by the audience. He helps everyone go out of the hall and have a smoke whenever there is a song sequence.

It will take a page more to specify the drawbacks of the movie but if GK corporation is really intending to make some profit they need to come out with a better proposition next time. Vishal needs to do a far far better job if he wants to succeed. Saba Iyappan needs to change his entire support crew if he needs to direct another film.

Overall, Thoranai is a torture for close to 3 hours. Please spend your money on something useful.
