THE European premiere of the ambitious new Indian movie ROBOT took place in London on the 30th of September. The www.Tamilchannel.com team was invited to the special premier screening of the movie organised by B4U. This epic movie from the legendary Rajinikanth and the ever so ravishing Aishwarya Rai did have all the ingredients of an successful Indian movie with an additional flavour of Scifi from the director, Shankar and his team.
The movie is released across the UK by B4U who have done an excellent job in promoting the arrival of ROBOT in a grand scale and the premiere did live up to its expectations, with all the fanfare associated with any Indian cinema release. The colourful and expectant invitees did create a festival atmosphere all around, special mention here to the B4U organising team who did take individual attention to everyone there. It was a job well executed. Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan graced the audience was the icing on the cake to the already star studded event.
Director, Shankar is not someone new to raising the bar on standards and he has indeed done that in ROBOT too. With Rajinikanth known for his anti gravity techniques and the enchanting beauty of Aishwarya together in the cast Shankar has indeed weaved a spell bounding sci-fi action movie. ROBOT is blended with the right amounts of fiction with emotions, this futuristic movie kindles the thoughts of the audience and the future of Robots in everyday life. But Robot isn’t effect alone. It has a plot too which, the film carries forward the man-machine war through interesting twists and turns. Rajini has his acting persona reflected on three different roles Vasee the Scientist pretty much an agitated and desperate individual, Chitti the Robo created by Vasee, lifeline to the movie and Chitti the Robo fighter who does the baddie role a cameo role right at the end of the movie, Aishwarya Rai ever so gracefully binding the story line and linking the three roles of Rajini with ease. The film interestingly moves and towards the end, usual Shankar style flying cars and blasting bombs gets a bit monotonous especially when Chitti the humanoid robot transforms to larger than imaginable proportions to ravage humanity.
The talking point of ROBOT apart from the high quality special effects designed and formulated by the Stan Winston Studio who reportedly delivered the animatrics for films like Jurassic Park and Avatar, the stunts choreographed by the Hong Kong based action director Yuen Woo Ping, associated with classics like Kill Bill and Matrix. The dance sequences have been choreographed by Prabhu Deva and Raju Sundaram, The impact of the music scored by AR Rahman needs no extra mention here as so much has been said and written all across.
ROBOT would surely thrill the kids and make an interesting viewing for the adults. Shankar has once again established his technical skills, ingenuity and imagination in this movie, We do wonder of his knack keeping the audience captured for the entire length of the movie, his ability to splash richness onto the screen. The use of animation and graphics does need special mention here again as it emphasizes that in future, Indian filmmakers would take the risk in making futuristic films to international standards, though ROBOT is a tad short in achieving those levels but will give you a feeling that we are close enough.
For sure this is one potential trend setter for Indian movies, has indeed lived up to the expectations and we expect to release another article soon on the international success of ROBOT
