Medicos asked to withdraw strike as precondition for holding talks  [Wednesday, July 15, 2009]

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi took a tight stand against the striking medicos and said that they should withdraw their strike as a precondition for holding talks with the government. He said that the medicos in TamilNadu were better paid compared to the pay in other states and asked the opposition "How much more do you want us to revise the stipend?" "The Tamil Nadu Government has increased the stipend to Rs 6,000 (from Rs 4,500) for House Surgeons which is better than what such persons are being paid in Delhi's AIIMS, Karnataka, Orissa, Puducherry and Punjab among others," he said in his reply to the opposition.
