State archeological department will allocate more funds for excavation [Monday, July 20, 2009]
Minister for School Education, Thangam Thenarasu said that the state archeology department will allot more funds for taking up further excavations at Utkottai Maligaimedu near Gangaikondacholapuram in Ariyalur district, where Rajendra Chola I had built his palace. Speaking after declaring open a special exhibition at the Chola village where the archaeology department had taken up its fourth phase of excavation, Mr. Thennarasu said the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, attached priority for excavation of historically important sites across the State.
