As a result of the power cuts, over one lakh employees in the state have lost their jobs. This includes the 40000 employees in the Tirupur region. Sources said over 20000 employees in December 2008 and over 149 industries have reduced the shifts from three to two. In order to assess the situation, the TNEB had asked its Superintending Engineers (SE) to give a list of units that has been shut down due to this.
