The Madras High Court confirmed the life sentence it has awarded to a woman in a case relating to her daughter-in -law, Tarakeshwari's death. Tarakeshwari who got married to Balaji in August 1998 was living with her husband and in-laws at Perambur. Her mother-in-law, Shyamala was convicted for her death in November 2000. The sessions court had held that she had died out of strangulation. But Shyamala was awarded life sentence. Hence she preferred the present appeal.
