Kudankulam reactor work nears completion [Monday, February 2, 2009]
The work of the first reactor in Kudankulam is nearing completion. The work is progressing with great speed and it will be the first of the two Russian reactors that would be commissioned by middle of 2009. Each such unit will generate 1000 MWe . Although the reactors are imported from Russia, the neuclear power corporation is building them. The entire Uranium fuel required for the first two years operation of the first unit have already arrived at Kudankulam. The only challenge will be to load the fuel into the first unit in the second quarter of 2009 and then its commissioning.
