The 56th Film Fare South India awards was held  as a grand function on 31st July at the Novotel Hotel. The award for the best actor was bagged by Suriya, for his wonderful performance in Vaaranam Aayiram. The award for the best actress was won by Parvathy for her awesome acting in 'Poo'. The Best Supporting actor and actress were Ajmal and Simran. The award for the best movie went to Subramaniyapuram and the award for the  best musician was bagged by Harris Jayaraj for his melodious compositions in Vaaranam Ayiram. The best male and female singers were Naresh Iyer and Deepa Mariam.
