55th National Film Awards declared [Tuesday, September 8, 2009]
As the 55th National Film Awards were declared in Delhi, the country saw the south walking away with quite a number of accolades including the awards for the best feature film, best director and best actor. The best actor of the year was none other than Kollywood's own Prakash Raj. The award came as a token of appreciation for the illustrious works of the actor in Kollywood. He was awarded for his performance in the film 'Kanchivaram', directed by Priyadarsan. The movie talks about the lives of silk weavers of Kanchipuram and the troubles that they face to have a normal living. The award for the best director was bagged by Adoor Gopalakrishnan for the malayalam film 'Nalu Pennungal'. The award for the best feature film was also bagged by 'Kanchivaram'. The award for the best male singer was bagged by Shankar Mahadevan and the best female singer was Shreya Goshal. Mr Ouseppachan bagged the award for the best music director for his composition in the film 'Ore Kadal'. Prakas Raj had to meet a tough competition from many experienced actors in the indian industry including Mammootty, Mohanlal,Sharukh Khan, Amir Khan and Akshay Khanna.
