The 2007 Kalaimamani awards were given away in a glossy function in Kalaivanar Arangam just weeks back. Reflecting on the way in which Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and the cabinet supported and encouraged kollywood, it was not a surprising fact that out of the total awards, a get majority went to the artists in the film field. However, it was notable that some of the very important celebrity guests were absent during the award function. They included Shwetha Gopalan,Meera Jasmine,Shobana, Nayantara, Saroja Devi, and director Cheran. While the others had there own personal reasons for not attending the award function, Director Cheran and Saroja Devi had specific reasons why they chose not to accept the award. Birdies in the industry say that both Saroja Devi and Cheran was not very found of the fact that they were awarded amongst the new comers. They see it as a late recognition of their contributions and hence chose not to acknowledge it. However, the award commitee decided to sent the award to these celebrities.
