Completly against the official announcement made, the controversial marriage of Pakistan Cricketer Shoaib Malik and tennis star Sania Mirza was performed at a five star hotel at 1 pm as per muslim customs. The officially announced date of the wedding was April 15. The marriage took place at Jubilee Hills residence and was attended by only the close relatives from both sides.

The Mirza family who spoke to the media said that it was a very simple function. The families were also careful to avoid all legal hurdles regarding Shoiab's previous marriage. The Pakistan cricketer's passport was confiscated by the Hyderabad police and it was not given back to the cricketer even after Ayesha Siddiqui who claimed to be his first wife withdrew the case she filed against the cricketer.
