The Kollywood music maestro Illayaraja clarified that his birthday falls on June 3 which falls exactly on the same day of the Chief Minister's birthday. He said that he advances his celebrations so that it does not clash with the Chief Minister's birthday.

“The decision was taken decades before since I didn’t want my birthday celebrations to clash with that of Kalaignar. I admire him a lot,” said Illayaraja attending a meeting organized by the crew members of 'Kulasekaranum Koolipadaiyum'. He said that he had requested the Chief Minister to start a university for music and that he wished the chief minister would take the necessary steps to make it a reality. The music director performed Annadhanam to 1000 persons as a part of the function.
