World Classical Tamil conference concerned about the future of Tamil [Thursday, June 24, 2010]
Inaugurating the Tamil Internet Conference and the seminar sessions of the World Classical Tamil Conference, Chief minister M Karunanidhi said that all literary master pieces in Greek, German, French , Latin and other world languages should be translated into Tamil. He also said that all rare manuscripts and other literary master pieces in tamil should be converted to electronic format and made accessible universally. The Finance Minister K Anbazhagan said that tamil language was endowed with numerous noble ideals and wisdom. Ulrike Niklas, Tamil Professor at the University of Cologne, said the Tamil Department's library in the university had a collection of over 50,000 titles and this was the largest outside Tamil Nadu.The other scholars who were a part of the conference said that there is an ongoing debate regarding the antiquity of Tamil. The all called for further research into the issue.
