Tollywood actress Vijayashanthi was arrested on June 30 for giving seditious speech in Medak constituency. The arrest was made ahead of the by elections to assembly seats in the state that is due to be held on July 27. The actress was taken into custody by the Hyderabad police at her residence. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti who gathered at her residence at the time of her arrest shouted slogans against the police and the governing authorities. The police however had taken prior measures to avoid any contigency that might arise during her arrest. The actress is alleged to have asked her cadres to chop off the hands of the people who were attempting to bifurcate the state.The police charged case on her under section 53 A and 505 (2) of Indian Penal Code.
