Replying to the constant queries by his fans, kollywood actor Madhavan made himself clear over a social networking website that he will not be acting in the kollywood remake of 3 idiots.That ended the months of speculation centering him and other top kollywood actors. Madhavan had earlier said that he was looking forward to do variety roles and that he was not interested in repeating his role in 3 idiots.

However speculations never ended. The latest buzz was that veteran director Shankar will be directing the flick. However the same has not been confirmed by the director nor by Gemini films who has acquired the release rights of the flick in tamil. Leading actors like Surya, Vijay , Jeeva , and Vishal are currently heading the charts for the three popular roles in 3 idiots. Nadigar Sangam president Sarath Kumar's current call for more multistarrers from kollywood may also increase the probability of these popular actors donning the lead in the proposed remake.
