'Nellu' directed by M Sivakumar has hit a road block as the censor board officials have objected to a number of scenes in the movie which includes the climax. Nellu is based on Keelvenmani incident that took place in 1968. The director said that the movie would not be complete if the existing climax is cut out. “Nellu is inspired by the Keelvenmani tragedy, where 42 farmers were killed in 1968. The film will be incomplete without the existing climax. So we decided to file an appeal. The incident is a milestone in our agrarian history, since it led to the fixing of daily wages and other rights for labours working in farm lands. It’s like Jalianwala Bagh in the history of independence struggle.”. The censor board is very much against the climax where the farmers are shown to be trapped inside a burning hut. However, the team is confident of receiving a positive verdict from the court.
