Kaavalan movie review  [Sunday, January 16, 2011]

Starring: Vijay, Asin, Rajkiran, Vadivelu
Direction: Siddique
Music: Vidyasagar
Production: C. Ramesh Babu

Kollywood flick Kaavalan starring the superb pair Vijay and Asin hit the screens on friday. It is an open secrect that the movie means much for Vijay whose career graph was descending awfully steeply. Much to the expectations of his fans and other audience, Kaavalan came with a unique story, quite different from the 'i am the saviour of all' type roles that Vijay was obsessed about in the past.

Kaavalan presents Vijay as a very normal human being, packed with all fundamental human emotions. The movie has given him a great chance to reveal himself as a talented artist once again, though after a really long time. It centers on the life of a young man who is too straight forward in life. This attitude often drives him to grave troubles. But it does not go unnoticed. His rare quality wins him the job of a bodyguard to a young girl from a well- to- do family. Eventually, the lady herself falls in love with the man . But she never expresses her feelings for him. Later she finds  herself depressed as it becomes impossible to win the man she loves. But things fall in place years down the lane after an authentic emotional outburst through which the facts come up.

The Vijay-Asin pair  worked out magically well in Kaavalan as in the past. The song sequences were spectacular and well choreographed. There was equal weightage for bollywood and desi style music in the movie. Vidyasagar's music requires a special mention as always. The comical interactions between Vijay and Vadivelu are good, but not good enough to fetch a high rating. Rajkiran's classical acting skills were once again revealed through the flick. Most appreciable were the scenes which showed the emotional interactions between Rajkiran and Vijay. These scenes made the movie more genuine compared to the previous ethereal movies of the hero.

Overall, the original version is not much tampered with, but the director has succeeded in giving a finishing touch in the tamil version. Briefly, Kaavalan is an outright entertainer for all Vijay fans and not a disappointing flick for the rest of the prospective audience.
