"Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu", directed by Susindharan turned out to be a successful film despite its low budget, absence of high profile stars or directors. The movie was different from the usual ones and according to the director, was a result of the inspiration he derived from Aamir Khan's 'Lagaan'. The director who was a resident of Pazhani named the film as "Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu", because his father was a player in the local Kabadi team named Vennila. The director was motivated by the narrations of his father about the game. "The title and th screen play are from my own experience and the crux of the movie is inspired by Aamir Khan's Lagaan", Mr Susindharan said.
