KB to be conferred Dada Sahib Phalke award  [Saturday, April 30, 2011]
   
 

 Veteran kollywood director K Balachander will be honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2010 for his extra ordinary contribution to the Indian film industry. The award is conferred by the Government of India on veterans of Indian film industry to honour their contributions. KB has been an outstanding director right from the start of his career. He has earlier received the Tamil Nadu government's prestigious Kalaimamani award, Padma Shree award etc .

He has also been the receipent of Filmfare awards for the best director numeorus times. His films were also remade in numerous other Indian languages. It was KB who introduced ace kollywood actors like Rajanikanth, Kamal Hassan and Prakash Raj. The director is lauded for his unique film making approach and spotting of talents. Besides this KB is also a close observant of all new developments in Kollywood. His letters appreciating young talents in kollywood is also note worthy.
