Stars Fast for SriLankan Tamils
Tamil Film Actors came together on Saturday to express solidarity with SriLankan Tamils and demand a ceasefire in the island nation.
Clad in black Shirts the Action, under the banner of “South Indian Artistes Association “ (SIAA), called for india’s intervention to restore peace in SriLankan. They Contributed Rs.45,75,000/- towards the “SriLankanTamils Relief Funds”
Rajinikanth, KamalHaasan, Vijayakant, Sarath Kumar, Ajith, Vijay,Radha Ravi and Sathyaraj were among several other who made statements critical of the SriLankan Government despite a caution President SarathKumar.
Kamal Haasan said “Peace is always welcome. But terrorism will be born when there is no guarantee for rights. Rajinikanth said the SriLankan army had to admit defeat for it had failed in a three decade long military oppression to subjugate the Tamils.
A resolution passed at the end of the protest urged the Centre to take serious steps to impress upon the Srilankan Government, through the Union External Affairs Ministry and Official diplomatic channels, to stop the war SIAA president Sarathkumar read out the resolutions.
In another resolution, Mr. Sarthkumar said that the money collected through the Association Would be handed over to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. He wanted the relief materials to reach the Tamils in Sri Lankan through any approved UN Agencies or the Red Cross. |
