The Tamil Nadu Commissioner of Police T Rajendran said that the crime profile of the city is changing compared to the past years. He said that there were very little reports of violences and more crimes were white collar in nature. “Of late there have been offences involving net-banking frauds, phishing mails, credit cards and impersonation…criminals have been adopting novel ways to cheat vulnerable people. The incidence of violent crimes has come down,” said he. The commissioner said that the latest one was that were the public were taken for a ride by the gang that introduced themselves as from the Income Tax Department. “They have been cheating people in many places in Tamil Nadu since 2002. Some of the suspects were arrested in different cases. Of the gang of seven, we have arrested five. ..the kingpin is absconding.” said Mr Rajendran.
