The Gold Card scheme introduced by the Tamil Nadu government for pooling in funds for the temples in the state has turned out to be a major success. The Gold Card scheme entitles donors to have a special darshan at all temples that are controlled by HR and CE departments. They can use this privilege for upto 20 years. The commissioner who commented on the scheme said that the introduction of the scheme saw the collection of Rs 1.75 crores in just four months. “I have cleared the purchase of 5 kg of gold by using the temple's funds from the Samayapuram Mariamman Temple, Tiruchi, and another 5 kg would be obtained by converting the devotees’ offering into gold blocks by sending it to the Mumbai mint,” he said regarding the funancing of gold requirements for the Lord Kallazhagar temple.
