Laksmi Mills company decided to shift its operations to Palladam and Kovilpati from Coimbatore. The mill has given option to its employees to take VRS or shift operations to Palladam and Kovilpatti. This was due to the recessionary trends and depreciation of machinery in Coimbatore units. The unit has 325 permanent workers. As per M A Arumugam , General Secretary of Coimbatore District Mill Workers Union , 125 workers have opted for VRS and 45 has agreed to work in the new sites.
