Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on thursday condoled the death of nine children and a school teacher in Kariapattinam village of Vedaranyam taluk of Nagapattinam district in a fatal road accident. The chief minister offered solatium to the nearest kins of the accident. He ordered an issue of Rs 50,000 each to the family of nine students and Rs 1 lakh to the family of the school teacher. A total amount of Rs  5.5 lakhs was released from the relief funds. The rate of road accidents is increasing over time in the state and the traffic police are now going strict in enforcing the traffic regulations that the vehicles are expected to take. Despite the numerous measures taken, it still remains a dark truth that the number of people who loose their lives in fatal road accidents are just increasing over the years.
