The MGR Awards for the year was presented to play back singer P Suseela and 'Film News' Anandan. The award is instituted by MGR Kazhagam. The award was given by G K Vasan, Union MInister for Statistics and Programme Implementation. Addressing the gathering, the minister said MGR had worked closely with Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajeev Gandhi in ensuring equal rights to Tamils in Srilanka. The minister also lauded Mrs P Suseela nd said that she had to her credit more than 30,000 songs sung in 13 languages.
