Ranil Wickremesinghe of the United National Front (UNF) party of Srilanka said that what the country requires is a democratic system in the lines of India. Srilanka is currently awaiting for the official announcement of the dates of its Presidential and Parliamentary elections. The political commentators hold that the presidential elections is the 'mother of all political battles' in Srilanka and as the island nation waits for the official announcement, there waits a distinct combinations of candidates to compete for the elections. The list varies from an incumbent President and Supreme Commander of the armed forces and retired Army Chief and a former commander of the Army.
