The Pattali Makkal Katchi on tuesday came in protesting against the Marine Fisheries (Regulation and Management) Bill 2009, saying that it was against the welfare of the fisherman in the state. The PMK leader S Ramdoss said that the fishermen had to forfiet their traditional fishing rights in Palk Bay after the Kachatheevu island was taken over by Srilanka. The opposition party AIADMK also expressed its opposition to the bill and said that they would strongly protest against the bill in the parliament. PMk leader Ramdoss said that some of the provisions of the bill like, the fine of Rs 9 lakh if the fishermen goes beyond 12 nautical miles of the fishing zone were unagreeable and hence would be adequately opposed.
