The AIADMK Gneeral Secretary Jayalalitha said on friday that she would take lead in staging a demonstration in Villipuram district on February 13 to highlight the issues faced by the sugar cane farmers . In  her announcement of the protest, she demanded that the government should announce Rs 2500 per tonne of sugarcane as advisory price.Ms Jayalalitha said that it was the responsibility of the government to provide the advisory price of sugarcane to the cane cultivators. She also cautioned that there would arise a situation where the state will have to resort to buying cane from other states if the price is not provided. The sugarcane availability during Pongal was very low compared to the previous years and the conusmers had to pay very high price than last year to get the cane during the festival season.
