The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said that AIADMK led by General Secretary Jayalalitha has embarked a 'mischevious campaign' against the ruling DMK by blowing up issues. He was reacting to the charges made by the AIADMK General secretary regarding the sugar production in the state. He clarified that the current sugar cane production in the state was the highest ever, in the last ten years. He also alleged that Ms Jayalalitha did not bother about the sugar cane farmers when she was ruling in 2001. Mr Karunanidhi said that the state government is giving Rs 90 as transportation charges to the cane cultivators and that the centre has announced a SMP of Rs 1298.40 during 2009-2010. He also clarified that the state government is giving a higher price than taht set by the centre.
